Qualifying- Andreas Pfister on pole position in season opener
Premiere on the pole position: In the opening round of the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup at Hockenheim Andreas Pfister set his first best time in qualifying.

The 19-year-old driver from Obersfeld completed the fastest lap in 2m04.199s, securing the best grid position for the race on Sunday. Stian Paulsen from Norway and Constantin Dressler from Göttingen in their 150-hp Racing Polo cars occupied places two and three, followed by Nico Bastian from Hemsbach and Sebastian Voges from Beckum. With Bastian Graber (Niddatal) and Felipe Fernández Laser (Uelzen) finishing in eighth and ninth place, respectively, two touring car rookies immediately managed to make it into the top ten.

"Ten drivers within one second show how tight the field is in the Polo Cup from the very first race. This suggests that this is a good Polo Cup year group, and I'm expecting an exciting tenth year for the 'touring car school'," said Kris Nissen, Volkswagen Motorsport Director.

Andreas Pfister defied the strong competition and took the lead as early as half-way through the 30-minute practice session, undercutting his own best time once more towards the end. "After third place in Free Practice I had already figured that I'd be clinching a good grid position. Of course the first pole position is ideal. In the race I'll do everything to make it onto the podium as well," said the young driver, who is currently being trained as a car salesman, in anticipation of the result. Stian Paulsen was not satisfied with the second place on the grid in the 24-strong field. "I could have done better if I'd at least managed to catch one free lap. But what the heck, maybe my time for first place will come in the race,” said the 19-year-old redhead with a twinkle in his eye. Constantin Dressler remained in the pitlane for a long time and set his best time only shortly before the end. "I didn't want to play the part of the vacuum cleaner and waited until the racing line offered the best grip,” reported the 18-year-old grammar school student. "In the race, as well, I'll wait and see what happens: Scoring points in all the races promises more success than risking everything for one win."

Bastian Graber is a "motorsport apprentice" in more ways than one: On the one hand the youngster, who has not yet completed his 16th year of age, is a real "rookie" just starting his racing career, and for the other he will be starting an apprenticeship as a vehicle mechanic in a race team this year. "I'm really happy about eighth place. The tips from the instructors as to how to best manage the qualifying worked splendidly. Now I'm hoping for everything in the race to go equally well,” said an enthusiastic Graber.
