Jeroen Bleekemolen celebrates flag-to-flag victory in Monaco

Jeroen Bleekemolen celebrates flag-to-flag victory in Monaco
Stuttgart. Jeroen Bleekemolen from the Netherlands won the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup in Monte Carlo. The 25-year-old former DTM pilot took up the 16-lap race on the Côte d’Azur from pole position and led the field over the entire distance. With a perfect performance he left his rivals without a chance on the 3.3 kilometre circuit.

Almost four tenths of a second behind the Dutchman, his compatriot and quadruple Supercup champion Patrick Huisman saw the chequered flag in second. The two-time Monaco winner (1998 and 2005) overtook the current points leader and reigning champion Richard Westbrook (Great Britain) directly after the start, relegating the Briton to third place on the podium.

Ranking fourth after the chase through the narrow streets of the Principality was Uwe Alzen (Germany). Behind the Porsche specialist and Supercup champion of 1994 came Jeroen's brother Sebastiaan Bleekemolen in fifth. Occupying positions six and seven, Damien Faulkner (Ireland) and Nicolas Armindo (France) put in an admirable drive at their first ever Monaco race. Belgium's David Saelens brought home eighth place.

Bad luck plagued Christian Menzel (Germany). The champion of the national Carrera Cup Deutschland of 2005 had to retire from the race after suffering technical problems with the transmission.

Richard Westbrook continues to lead the championship with 70 points ahead of Damien Faulkner with 62 points. Uwe Alzen sits third overall (54 points) followed by Patrick Huisman (46 points) and David Saelens (37 points).

Victor Jeroen Bleekemolen did not receive points as he contested the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup as a guest driver.

The fifth round of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup takes place on 1 July as support to the French Grand Prix on the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.

Jeroen Bleekemolen (winner): “I'm delighted with my victory. My start wasn't that great, but at least I could hold the others off. My car was perfectly prepared. Towards the end Patrick Huisman was getting closer and faster. But overtaking in Monaco is virtually impossible so victory was mine. It was a lot of fun. In fact, I would love to contest the rest of the series now. It's fantastic competition where your driving ability really counts. Unfortunately the complete 2007 season is not possible.“

Patrick Huisman (second): “I'm very happy with second. I started from third on the grid and managed to grab a position – to do this in Monaco is like overtaking five cars on any other track. In the second half of the race my car improved and I sat close on Jeroen's bumper. But I could forget about overtaking. As a guest driver he couldn't claim points anyway so I didn't want to take any risks. 20 points are more important to me than the winner's trophy.“

Richard Westbrook (third): “I'm totally happy to take third today. I had problems selecting third gear at the beginning. On the way to the Casino I had to drive in second gear. Actually I had gear shifting problems over the entire race. Aside from these difficulties my car was perfectly set-up. It's wonderful to drive through Monaco with this car. I'm still leading the championship so things couldn't be better.“
