Alzen travels to Barcelona as favourite – de Castro pilots 911 GT3 Cup
Stuttgart. Following the first two championship races of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, Uwe Alzen rolls to the start of round three on the Circuit de Catalunya (Spain) as front-runner of the drivers standings. With 38 points to his credit, the 39-year-old reigning vice-champion of the world's fastest international one-make series leads a field of well-known rivals. Amongst them are many sportscar specialists as well as two reigning Porsche champions, Richard Westbrook (Great Britain) and Damien Faulkner (Ireland).

Just two points separate Faulkner from the leading Alzen. The former champion of the Carrera Cup Great Britain already underlined his prowess at the season-opener in Bahrain. The 30-year-old Irishman won the first race and climbed the podium in third at the second round. Additionally, he turned the fastest race laps both times. Trailing the leader by six points Richard Westbrook, the reigning champion of the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, occupies third overall in the rankings. Behind the 32-year-old Briton, Alessandro Zampedri, winner of the 2005 Porsche Supercup, sits fourth in the classification.

Currently ranking sixth, David Saelens travels to Spain with high hopes. The former DTM pilot won the 14 lap race on the 4.6 kilometre Grand Prix circuit near Barcelona last year, beating Fabrice Walfisch (France) and Richard Westbrook. In the championship, Walfisch is sixth in the standings.

New Zealander Matthew Halliday will not take part from the third round as expected. Halliday has signed on to contest the Champ Car World Series and due to conflicting schedules waives further Porsche Mobil1 Supercup races.

At the first race of the season on European soil, the spectators experience a first: Like in previous years, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG reserves a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for prominent guest drivers at selected races. For the first time in 2007 an impressive matt-black VIP-Carrera, with its optic created by Porsche Design, makes an appearance. Taking the wheel of the vehicle is Miguel Angel de Castro, one of Spain's most successful sportscar drivers. In 2000 he won the Spanish GT Championship, and the Iberian counterpart in 2004 and 2005. In 2002 de Casto secured second overall at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 hour race.

The television station “Eurosport“ broadcasts the race on the Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday 13 May live from 11.20am. Additionally, “Eurosport“ broadcasts highlights of the race on Sunday evening in its “Motorsports Weekend“ programme.
