Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 0:49.416 min) claimed pole position for the fifth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series, which will be taking place at the Norisring in Nuremberg tomorrow. For the 18 year old Swiss, it is the second pole of this season. Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3, 0:49.608 min) was second in qualifying at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring ahead of his team-mate Kamui Kobayashi (0:49.696 min).
Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3, 0:49.696 min), points leader of the Formula 3 Euro Series after four rounds, was fourth with the same time as Kobayashi. The best-placed rookie, Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus, 0:49.855 min) and Tim Sandtler (Jo Zeller Racing, 0:49.919 min) were followed by Marco Holzer (AM-Holzer Rennsport, 0:49.963 min), who showed a surprising performance in Nuremberg. The only driver with an Opel engine in the field ranged seventh in qualifying.
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “It was very close. The point for pole position is very important for me. I didn’t want to push too hard with my first set of tyres, as I knew that the faster lap times would be set towards the end of the session. With my second set, I gave everything on every lap.”
Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “It was quite good, I am satisfied with second place. In the right-hand corner in the chicane, I had a slight problem with the car. Too bad that I lost one point to Sébastien Buemi.”
Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3): “Third place on the grid is a good position to start the race from. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get the best out of my tyres when they were at their peak, because I didn’t have a clear lap at that time.” |
