Nicolas Armindo wins to take lead – zero points for Westbrook
Stuttgart. Nicolas Armindo celebrated his third victory in his Carrera Cup career and his first success so far this season after a gripping duel with Joerg Hardt (Germany). The Frenchman won after 24 laps with a 0.4 second advantage over the German on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Up to half-distance Armindo had held a clear lead but ultimately came under increasing pressure from his German rival, whose Porsche pulled alongside Armindo's yellow 911 GT3 several times.

Points leader Richard Westbrook (Great Britain) kept his 911 in the slipstream of the leading duo. In lap 18, when he attempted to lap a slower competitor, the vehicles touched and both spun from the circuit. Westbrook's retirement was his first in two years.

In the first lap Uwe Alzen (Germany) ploughed his way through the field to claim sixth position, and finished the race in third ahead of Jan Seyffarth (Germany).

Whilst Lance-David Arnold (Germany) put in a strong performance starting from ninth on the grid to finish fifth, his compatriot Christian Menzel was not able to defend his fourth in qualifying and received the chequered flag in sixth.

As the best new-comer to the series, Jiri Janak (Czech Republic) was delighted with his seventh position, which he narrowly grabbed from old-hand Chris Mamerow (Germany). Two further Carrera Cup rookies, Thomas Jaeger and Pascal Kochem from Germany, managed to see the flag in the top ten.

With his victory Armindo takes over the points lead in the drivers championship from Westbrook. Uwe Alzen shares the same points as the Frenchman but ranks second overall ahead of Richard Westbrook. Joerg Hardt advances from sixth to now sit fourth.

The fourth round of the Carrera Cup Deutschland takes place tomorrow here on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.

Nicolas Armindo (winner): “That was a great race, although I admit I was exhausted and made several small mistakes – Joerg didn't let me take a breather at all. It seems I have some serious work to do on my fitness. I want to very much thank my team boss Hans-Bernd Kamps. He gave me hope at the end of 2006 after a terrible season. Without him I wouldn't be here.”

Joerg Hardt (second position): “I actually had the faster car in the second half of the race. But after my zero result in Oschersleben I didn't want to take any risks. Tomorrow is round four – my aim is to finish amongst the front-runners.”

Uwe Alzen (third position): “I can't drive any faster. I gave everything I had. Every corner, every braking manoeuvre was like during a qualifying session. Tomorrow I start from 16th – that's terrible. But I'll try to bring home as many points as possible.”
