| The Round Britain Offshore Powerboat Race came to an abrupt end today for Wettpunkt.com, the 1800hp Isotta Fraschini-powered Fabio Buzzi design suffering a broken propeller and damaged transmission off-Harwich whilst on its way from Lowestoft to Portsmouth on the final leg of the 10 day event. Today’s disappointment mirrored that from the opening leg of the gruelling challenge, the team experiencing a premature conclusion to their racing exploits on both occasions. Sandwiched between the frustration, however, were five consecutive top-two finishes including three wins, more than any other team. It proved to be a highly successful adventure for Wettpunkt.com owner/throttleman Hannes Bohinc, driver Max Holzfeind and navigator Ed Williams-Hawkes, the Anglo-Austrian team having achieved the fastest average speeds whilst fulfilling their objectives of testing the hull and engines under the most arduous conditions |
. The 2008 Round Britain Race was won by the Greek challenger, Blue FPT, whose consistency over the 8 legs proved to be instrumental in securing this prestigious honour.
