| The historic port and biggest city in Galicia will host the fifth round of the 2008 P1 World Championship from 12th to 14th September. Speaking at the launch of the Spanish Grand Prix of the Sea, Managing Director of Powerboat P1, Jim O’Toole said: "As the international appeal of Powerboat P1 grows, we are breaking new ground with our race venues and the decision to come to Spain was as a result of the warm and positive response we received from the city of Vigo in our initial discussions. Vigo not only has the infrastructure and facilities required for a Powerboat P1 event but it is also a 'city of the sea' in every way." O'Toole added: "The encouragement we have received from the city of Vigo, the region of Galicia and the powerboat federations of Galicia and Spain gives me every confidence that this will be an outstanding Grand Prix weekend. Spain is a major market for the European marine industry, with a strong history of powerboat racing, and the country has a proud record of staging |
world class sports events."
Vigo's Deputy Mayor, Santiago Dominguez said: "It is a tremendous honour for Vigo to host the Powerboat P1 Grand Prix for the first time in Spain. We really believe in the event and hope that this will be the start of a long and successful relationship with the P1 World Championship. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone here in September." |
