44 Conam Yachts wins Italy SuperSport Endurance
10.05.2008 |
|
| The crew of team owner and throttleman Angelo Tedeschi and his new pilot Aaron Ciantar dominated the SuperSport Evolution event that got the race weekend off to a great start. Tedeschi and Ciantar quickly built up a dominant 30-second lead over their nearest rivals and extended that to 40s by the chequered flag. “It’s a good start for the season,” Tedeschi said on the winners’ podium. “To start well means we have an early advantage over the competition. The calm seas today weren’t actually the best for our boat, but Aaron and myself worked well together. It is difficult to find a good relationship between pilot and throttleman, but I only said 10 words so it means we understand each other very well.” |

| The #07 VoomVoom.com crew of pilot Gareth Williams and throttleman Vahid Ganjavian finished second after a close tussle with the #47 Silverline Buzzi Bullet crew of pilot Jan Falkowski and throttleman Drew Langdon. “Second is a fantastic result to start the year with, and it’s great to be on the podium for the first race of the season,”said Williams. “The boat was performing flawlessly.” The #47 Silverline Buzzi Bullet crew had held second position in the early laps, but were caught out by the #07 VoomVoom.com boat on lap three. “We had some great dicing with the VoomVoom.com boat, but they just managed to get the slip on us,” said Falkowski. “We tried whatever we could to re-catch them, and lots of different lines, but it wasn’t to be.” |

| The #59 Saho boat of the Offshore Rana’s Team offered more Italian joy with fourth place for the crew of pilot Maurizio Di Stasio and throttleman Federico Terenziani, while the #11 Sunseeker Challenger crew of pilot Andy Wilby and throttleman Pete Little posted a creditable fifth-place finish after suffering a repeat of the lack-of-power problems that affected their build-up to the start of the season. “This is the Endurance race, so it’s more important to finish,” said Wilby. “We’ve had problems with the power coming to this race, so we never expected to be the fastest boat out there.” |
