| The Powerboat P1 World Championship is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Wicks as Sales and Marketing Director. He will commence full-time in the role at the start of September. Wicks was formerly the sponsorship and commercial manager for Suzuki's factory race teams in MotoGP and the British Superbike Championship where both teams have been partnered by the Rizla brand for several years. Prior to Suzuki he spent five years as the marketing and commercial manager of the Superbike World Championship. His appointment follows hot-on-the-heels from that of Jim O'Toole as P1's Commercial Director. "Robert brings with him a wealth of very relevant experience," Powerboat P1 Chairman Asif Rangoonwala commented on the appointment, "both from a sponsorship and commercial perspective and also in terms of what it is going to take to build the P1 brand at global level. to the next level." Powerboat P1 is the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) world endurance racing series and has two classes, SuperSport and Evolution. The series has evolved rapidly from a single annual event prior to P1's acquisition of the sport in 2002, to a six-event, twelve-race series in 2007. There are aggressive plans to extend global reach over the next three years. Today the sport includes twenty international teams with increasing participation from engine and boat manufacturers. The current schedule includes Grand Prix of the Sea in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Malta, Portugal and the UK. The next round of the 2007 Powerboat P1 World Championship, the Belgian Grand Prix of the Sea, takes place in Zeebrugge over the weekend of 8th/9th September. |
