| The big swells, 4m that are the hallmark of the Napier race are expected to create the same excitement and close racing that the Whitianga race provided. In the Superboat Class the brand new 35ft Skater, Cure Kids (Tony Coleman & Wayne Carson) will be out to get back to back wins after their first ever line honours at Whitianga. However, Sleepyhead (Peter Turner & Craig Archer), FMI (Warren & Scott Lewis) and Pro Floors (Wayne Valder and Ross Christensen) will be out to ensure that does not happen. One thing is for sure there will be close competition in this class. In the Superboat Light Class it is a battle royal with a father and daughter contest Grant & Kelly Smith (Addictive plus Rayglass), for overall Class Champion for the year. But expect a close race from Doosan (Cary Gleeson and Sam Filmore) which is expected to go well in the big swells. Unfortunately, Family Boats (Bob Smith & Mark Taiadini) will not be racing due to damage sustained at Whitianga. In the 60 mile race Finance |
Point (Mark Diggleman) is now developing a clear lead for overall champion for the year. In formula Honda the tight contest between Michael Knight in Building Solutions and Mike Smith in Cougar Marine continues.
