Power on the Water Auckland
08.05.2008
Best Viewing is from Westhaven and it is expected that the event will attract up to 15,000 spectators as it has in the previous two years. The Auckland race is always a great finish to the season as it is a fantastic course for both the racers and spectators. For the top two classes the overall series winners have been determined with Sleepyhead and Rayglass only needing to cross the start line to win the Superboat and Superboat Light Classes respectively. However when the flag goes down expect Turner and Archer in Sleepyhead and Smith and Thompson in Rayglass to be all out to get wins at Auckland. However, in the Honda Class there will be fierce competition between the top three boats Cougar Marine (Smith & Hopkins), Building Solutions (Knight & Thickpenny) and Light Industry (The Urquharts ) as any three of these could potentially win the series. Also expect a great battle for the overall 60 mile championship winner between Financepoint (Diggleman and Parsons) Marine Workz (Cameron and Hillar) and Konica Minolta (Brink & Archer). Leading up to the event there will be a parade of the boats down Queen Street on the Friday at 12 Noon. Don’t miss the final round of the Cougar Marine and Inex Metal 2008 New Zealand Offshore Power Boat Championship. Best viewing – Westhaven.
