| The shores of the beautiful Redcliffe beaches will come alive with over 40,000 people expected to watch Redcliffe’s ‘Indy on water’, a free public event that will form part of the popular Redcliffe First Settlement Festival. On Sunday 9th September 2007, over 20 powerboats reaching speeds in excess of 250km/h will be flying across Moreton Bay along Redcliffe’s coastline. The Redcliffe Powerboat Grand Prix will be one of the most anticipated events on QLD sporting calendar with four key race points only 300 metres from the shore. All the glitz and glamour usually reserved for Formula 1 and Indy Champ Car events will be present with five of the million dollar Class 1 boats on show and numerous other power boats with a combined worth of over million. The race will be shown on commercial TV as well as Foxtel throughout Australia and will form part of the lead up to the recently announced international powerboat race to be held on Sydney Harbour in March 2008. and surrounding communities will get their first glimpse of the boats at the official welcoming parade set for Saturday 8th September along Redcliffe Parade from 9.00am to 10.00am. The boats and pit crew will then be on display for public viewing throughout Saturday at the Moreton Bay Boat Club. For those adrenaline junkies that are not satisfied with just the powerboats, over 15 Thundercats will also be racing before the main race at 11.00am. The Redcliffe Powerboat Grand Prix will kick off at 12.00pm with boats racing for approximately 1 hour. |
