Grand Prix Organisers praised for Environmental stance
19.07.2008
Per Carsten Michelsen and his team of officials and volunteers were commended at yesterday’s Environmental Seminar for their pro-active and positive approach to the environmental challenges they face in Arendal, as the organisers of the Norwegian Grand Prix. "The Norwegian Grand Prix (NGP) has been taking the environmental issues very seriously for several years. We have been called the bad guys and the event has been accused for having a negative impact on the environment because of noise, emissions of CO2 and giving the wrong signal to the world," said Per Carsten. "NGP has responded on and off the water which shows we are listening to what people are saying. Last year we commissioned a comprehensive environmental footprint of our event to see how we can improve, and this year we have enforced noise restrictions on all raceboats to meet the levels imposed on us by the authorities. We have taken the first steps but there is still more we - and the sport - can and will be doing."
