A New Hope

01.05.2007
A New Hope
In the past season German pilot Klaus Schrodt was unable to match his top performance of past years and struggled with his aircraft “It’s a fact that my Extra 300S, compared to the rest of the competition planes, is about 150 kilos heavier. It’s sluggish as a result and I lose noticeable manoeuvrability and time.”
In the run-up to the Red Bull Air Race qualifying in Istanbul, Schrodt is nevertheless hopeful of making it into the elimination round. British pilot Paul Jones is flying a replacement plane in Istanbul while his Edge 540 is getting repaired after hitting a pylon in the Monument Valley competition, leaving Schrodt with one less contender to worry about. Michael Goulian put Jones’ problematic new wings in perspective: “Jones’ Extra 300S flies like a school bus.”
