Besenyei switches back to the Edge

Besenyei switches back to the Edge
Hungary’s Peter Besenyei (Team Red Bull) said on Saturday he decided to stick with the Edge he knows well rather than switch to a new Extra delivered just days earlier for his home town Red Bull Air Race World Series race in Budapest on Monday after struggling with the set-up in Friday’s free training session.

“It’s a new plane and we had no time to set up the plane the right way,” Besenyei said on Saturday after abruptly aborting the experiment with the Extra and switching back to the Edge that has helped him finish second the last two seasons.
“We just didn’t have the time. We have to work on the set-up. If we had one more week, or at least a few days, it should work. But we’ve only had it for two days. We just did not have enough time to work on the new plane.”
Besenyei is third in this season’s championship and is hoping to narrow the gap behind Paul Bonhomme (GBR/Team Matador) and Mike Mangold (USA/Cobra).

“It’s a very nice plane, very nice with the turning,” Besenyei said of the Extra, which helped Nicolas Ivanoff (FRA/M.R.T.) make a big leap forward earlier this season when he swapped to the German-made plane.

Besenyei said he was looking forward to the race in front of his home town crowd on Hungary’s national holiday on Monday but admitted there were disadvantages as well.
“Yes, of course there’s a little bit more pressure,” he said. “It’s interesting. I’m looking forward to the race.”
